Diesel Locomotive Works was formed in the year 1961. DLW is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. This organization manufactures diesel-electric locomotives and its spare parts. It is the production unit of Indian Railways. This organization’s annual production capacity is 250 locomotives and plans to increase it to 275 based on the current demand. DLW now manufactures more than one locomotive per day. DLW manufactured 34 diesel-electric locomotives in the financial year 2016-17, it is the highest record ever loco production by any of the loco manufacturing units in India. It manufactures locomotives which are variants based on the original ALCO designs dating to the 1960s and the GM EMD designs of the 1990s.
