About Kazi Nazrul University (KNU) – knu.ac.in
Kazi Nazrul University (KNU) was established in the year 2012 under the West Bengal Act XIX of 2012. This University is named once the rebel poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam of India who is also the national poet of Bangladesh. The revolutionary poet, Kazi Nazrul, has been immortalized in Bengali cultural memory because of his acute thirst for a spirit of independence and his attentiveness to the syncretism that characterizes knowledge traditions also as transactions. The start vision of Kazi Nazrul University is to operate effectively as an institutional area encouraging and providing instruction, teaching, training, and research in varied branches of learning and courses of study with a read to promoting advancement and dissemination of knowledge and increasing higher education to meet the immediate needs of society.

Faculty member Anuradha Mukhopadhyay, the primary Vice-Chancellor, assumed workplace on 3rd Dec 2012 at the Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA) building. On 10th Jan 2013, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Smt. Mamata Bandopadhyay laid the foundation stone of Kazi Nazrul University on its own campus, 31 kilometres away from the town of Asansol. In July 2013, the University inaugurated its teaching programs by commencing postgraduation classes in four core disciplines in Bengali, English, History, and mathematics with regarding 120 students.
Over time, 17 PG departments have started functioning with all necessary infrastructures in the field of the university, associated with an actual intake of 1269 students within the academic year 2018-19. Most of those departments have gone on to introduce full-time M.Phil. and PhD programs, in complete accordance with UGC pointers. A complete of 20 faculties from conterminous areas are related to to the university, with the associate actual intake of 14,833 students at the undergrad level within the year 2018-19. whereas an oversized range of scholars registered at the university departments also as in its affiliated faculties is first-generation learners, associate astounding 66 % of the entire student strength contains ladies.
KNU Admissions
- UG program admissions are based on the academic performance in the qualifying examination. Candidates must have the 10+2 with a minimum of 45% from the relevant stream to be eligible to apply.
- PG program admissions offer to the students based on the academic performance in the qualifying examination. Students must hold the under graduation course.
- Candidates must have a Master’s degree from a recognized institution in the relevant field for the research admissions at KNU.
