The BBC, started this annual award three years ago to celebrate Indian female athletes and recognise their achievements in various sports during the past year. A panel comprising of eminent Indian sports journalists and experts selected the nominees, and public voting determined the winner. The winner of the fourth edition of the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year 2022 was announced at a gala on Sunday. The nominees for this year’s award included Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Mirabai Chanu, Indian badminton player PV Sindhu, Olympic bronze medalist wrestler Sakshi Malik, two-time wrestling world championship medalist Vinesh Phogat, and boxing world champion Nikhat Zareen.
