NIACL AO Mains Exam Pattern for Objective, Descriptive Tests

The NIACL AO Mains Examination will be divided into two parts. The first part will consist of four sections with Objective Type Questions, carrying a total of 200 marks. These sections are English language, Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness. The second part of the Mains Examination will include a Descriptive Test, which will be worth 30 marks. Candidates will have to answer Descriptive Test by typing on the computer. Immediately after completion of Objective Test, Descriptive Test will be administered.

Negative Marking

Penalty for Wrong Answers (Applicable to both – Preliminary and Main examination) There will be penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests. Each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

Descriptive Test

The Descriptive Test will be conducted in online mode and will assess candidates’ proficiency in the English Language through two components: Letter Writing (worth 10 marks) and Essay Writing (worth 20 marks). Candidates will have 30 minutes to complete the entire Descriptive Test. During this time, they must showcase their writing skills by composing a well-structured and coherent letter and essay.
