Oscars 2023 | Best Original Song Award to India for Naatu Naatu
At the 95th Academy Awards, India was among the countries that shone brightly, alongside the film “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” The song “Naatu Naatu” from the film RRR won the award for Best Original Song, while “The Elephant Whisperers” was named Best Documentary Short. Actress Deepika Padukone, dressed in a stunning black Louis Vuitton gown, was present as a presenter and introduced the live performance of “Naatu Naatu,” featuring Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava on vocals and Lauren Gottlieb’s dance performance. Notably, Deepika Padukone became only the third Indian to present at the Oscars, following in the footsteps of Persis Khambatta and Priyanka Chopra.
The team behind RRR, including director SS Rajamouli and actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR, also attended the awards ceremony. Meanwhile, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” emerged as a big winner, receiving five Oscars out of its 11 nominations. Michelle Yeoh, the film’s lead actress, made history as the first Asian winner of the Best Actress award. Her co-stars Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis also won their first Oscars for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, respectively. The film also won the awards for Best Picture, Best Director for the Daniels, and Best Film Editing. Additionally, Germany’s “All Quiet On The Western Front” won four Oscars, including the Best International Feature Film award.
