The Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha has chalked out 10 years Vision set up for the developmental activities in realizing the goals set by the founders. On the recommendations of the Central Sanskrit Commission appointed by the Government of India throughout the Nineteen Fifties, a Central Sanskrit Institute was established at Tirupati in 1961 by, India Education Ministry in partial fulfilment of the recommendations, for the preservation and propagation of ancient Sanskrit learning to combine it with the trendy methods of research. the govt of India official an autonomous registered body known as ‘Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha Tirupati Society’ for the administration of the institution. the foundation stone for the Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha was set by the then Vice-President of India, Dr.S.Radhakrishnan on fourth January 1962. regarding forty-two acres of land at the foot of the Seven Hills, Tirumala was hired out by the T.T.D. Trust, then headed by an officer, Dr.C.Anna Rao alongside a munificent donation of Rs.10 lacs towards the construction of buildings.

The Vidyapeetha Society has a successive chairman who was accepted by Sri Patanjali Sastry, a former judge of India being the first, followed by prof.V.Raghavan. Dr. B.R. Sharma was the Founder and also acted because of the Director from 1962 to 1970. Sri Venkata Raghavacharya, Dr.Mandan Mishra, Dr.R.Karunakaran, Dr. M.D. Balasubramanyam and academic. N.S. Ramanuja Tatacharya served the institution in numerous capacities. Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha came below the aegis of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan– associate degree autonomous body underneath the Ministry of Education in April 1971. Despite the challenges of the trendy world, it’s adult from strength to strength as a premier establishment for Sanskrit language learning and research in India. throughout the jubilee celebrations in 1987, Sri P.V.Narasimha Rao, the then Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India declared the choice of the govt. to elevate its status to the Deemed University.
The Vidyapeetha was declared as a Deemed to be a University on the recommendations of the U.G.C below Section three of UGC Act by the govt. of India in its Gazette dated 16 – 11- 1987, No. F.9-2/85 U-3. The University was formally inaugurated by the then President of India Sri R.Venkataraman on twenty-sixth August 1989. The Vidyapeetha started functioning as a Deemed University from the academic year 1991 – 92. Now Prof. V.Muralidhara Sharma took over as Vice-Chancellor. The Vidyapeetha is currently headed by Shri. Shri. N.Gopalaswami, IAS (Retd., former Chief Election Commissioner of India and Padmabhushan recipient serving as the Chancellor and professor. V.Muralidhara Sharma as the Vice-Chancellor of the Vidyapeetha.

Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP)
The board of Distance Education was established in the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati from the educational year 2003-04 with the permission of the Distance Education Council (DEC), IGNOU, New Delhi and conjointly got the approval of the Joint Committee consisting of the DEC, UGC-AICTE-DEC Vide F.No.DEC/ Recog/ 2010 2290 dated 04.08.2010 (2010-11).
The Directorate of Distance Education is functioning with success with the monetary and tutorial help provided by the Distance Education Council (DEC), IGNOU, New Delhi.
