About Visva Bharati University – visvabharati.ac.in
Visva-Bharati University is a public central university placed in Santiniketan, West Bengal. It is Established on 23 December 1921. It was founded by Rabindranath Tagore who referred to as Visva Bharati, which implies the communion of the world with India. The Motto of the University was in English Where the world makes a home in a single nest. The First Chancellor of this University was Prime Minister of India. Until independence, it was a college. Soon after the independence, in 1951, the institution was given the status of a university and was renamed Visva-Bharati University. The school was expanded and renamed Visva-Bharati University.

It was developed as a most notable place in India’s higher learning, with a list of alumni that includes Nobel-winning economist Amartya Sen, globally renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray and the country’s leading art historian R. Siva Kumar, to name just a few. This University has the Academic staff of 515 and the number of Students was 65,000 above. The University of Visva Bharati has affiliations of UGC, NAAC, AIU, ACU. This University offers Courses on Certificate, graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. A study of the evolution of Visva-Bharati throughout the period of its founder, Rabindranath Tagore, offers an insight into what this institution was intended to achieve.
Rabindranath founded a school for children at Santiniketan and it was around this nucleus that the structure of an unconventional university developed through careful planning. It was established by Debendranath Tagore, the poet’s father in 1863, had built a small retreat for meditation, and in 1888 he dedicated, the land and buildings for the establishment of a Brahmavidyalaya and a library. In 1925 this school came to be known as Patha-Bhavana.
Visva Bharati University Admissions
- UG admissions are done on the basis of the merit of the student by considering their 10+2 examination results.
- For the PG admissions, candidates must hold with the bachelor’s degree in the respective field. The minimum percentage is required for various courses.
- Admissions for M.Phil. and Ph.D courses and candidates must hold a Master’s degree.
