Waseem Ahmad Bhat  UPSC Topper 7th Rank (AIR)

Waseem Ahmad Bhat, originally from the beautiful area of Anantnag in South Kashmir, has achieved notable recognition by attaining the 7th position in the UPSC CSE 2022.

During an exclusive interview with Aaj Tak, Waseem conveyed his joy regarding the noteworthy position he achieved in the All India Rankings (AIR) of the UPSC. He revealed that despite his previous attempts at the examination, he had not attained such a remarkable rank before.

Inspired by his grandfather's encouragement to dream big, Waseem Ahmad Bhat (25) has consistently aimed for ambitious goals. Following five years of dedicated effort, Bhat, a resident of Kashmir, now proudly finds his name listed among the top 10 achievers in the UPSC.

Bhat's success in the civil services exam is not a new achievement for him. Two years ago, he secured the 225th rank, but he did not consider it satisfactory and aimed for higher goals.

Hailing from Bragam village located in Anantnag's Dooru tehsil, Bhat completed his class X examinations at Iqbal Memorial Institute, which was approximately two kilometers away. Subsequently, he enrolled in the government higher secondary school.

In 2015, he cracked the Joint Entrance Examination and got a seat in the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar. In 2019, he graduated from NIT as a civil engineer. It was during his college days that he first set his eye on the civil services.

Being the eldest among three siblings and the son of a government employee, Bhat acknowledges his achievements to be the result of support from his grandfather, parents, relatives, and friends. He mentioned that his parents consistently provided him with more than he requested and that his grandfather played a significant role in encouraging him to have ambitious aspirations.

Following his successful clearance of the UPSC exam in 2021, he entered the Indian Revenue Services. However, he recognized the potential for further improvement in his rank and continued his preparations.

This year, Bhat is one of the seven candidates from Jammu and Kashmir who have successfully passed the civil services exam. Another candidate, Parsanjeet Kour, hailing from Jammu's Poonch district, secured the 11th rank.
