Candidate #1 – Yahoo Interview Experience

Below is the Yahoo Interview Process that I’ve undergone during my Yahoo Campus Interview.
- Aptitude Test
- Lab Test
- 2 Technical Rounds
- 2 HR Rounds
Round 1 – Aptitude Test
In this round, there are 25 questions and the time limit is 60 mins and there is no negative marking. The questions asked are related to algorithms, complex functions, probability, puzzles, graphs, OS, and Networking. This round ranges from easy to moderate depending upon your preparation level. Once I was qualified in the Aptitude round I was allowed to appear for the Lab Test round.
Round 2 – Lab Test
In this round, there are 2 sections and each section has 2 questions in it. And in order to qualify in this round, you must at least solve one question from each section.
Section 1
1. Given a file system tree like the one given below, write a program to a) represent it in memory, and b) find the size of all files in any given path.
2. 9 mobiles are given whose name, cost, and 3 other features were provided on a scale of 9. You have to treat the cost as 1 dimension and three other features as another dimension (their respective weightage was given). When the user enters a name of a mobile, the name of another 3 mobiles should be displayed based on how similar they are to given mobile on the basis of dimension 1 and dimension 2 of the mobile.
Section 2
1. Split a Circular Linked List into two halves (Given a Circular Linked List of size N, split it into two halves circular lists. If there are an odd number of nodes in the given circular linked list then out of the resulting two halved lists, the first list should have one node more than the second list. The resultant lists should also be circular lists and not linear lists.)
2. You have to count the number of first contiguous 0s of an array. The size of the array is not given.
Once I have completed my coding, the Yahoo members came over, they checked my code and evaluated on different parameters like code clarity, style of coding, and output and they examined the code for different parameters.
Round 3 – Technical Round 1
Once, I greeted the interviewer and took a seat when he told me. And then the interviewer asked questions from my aptitude round to test my problem-solving skills. So, here are the few questions that were asked to me by the interviewer.
1. Favourite Subject (Few questions are asked related to my favorite subject to test the depth of knowledge I have in it).
2. Questions on OS concepts.
3. What is memory management
4. What is Scheduling.
5. Some basic questions on DBMS & Networking were also asked.
The whole round took nearly 30-35 minutes. And then later they asked me to appear for the next round of technical interview.
Round 4 – Technical Interview 2
The interviewer initially took my introduction and asked me about the subjects I like. And then, later on, started asking questions from my core subjects. Check out the below question to get an idea about my Yahoo Technical Interview Experience.

2. Do you really need the auxiliary space in merge sort?
3. Questions on DBMS’ file storage

My 2nd round of technical interviews was completed in 30 mins. And when the results were announced, I got to know I was shortlisted for the next round.
Round 5 – HR Interview 1
This round took 15 mins and the interviewer was friendly. Here are some of the questions that I’ve faced.
1. Which Yahoo products do you use.
2. Can you list any drawbacks for the yahoo product you use.
3. Do you wish to make a product and if yes can you give me an idea.
Round 5 – HR Interview 2
Below are the questions that were asked to me in my final round of interviews.
1. What are your personal strengths
2. What are your weakness
3. Educational Background
4. Will you leave Yahoo? If some other company offers you a better package?
And finally, the results were announced, and I’ve received the best news of my selection.
Candidate #2 – Yahoo Interview Experience for Freshers
Job Role: Senior Software Engineer
Status – Selected
Difficulty Level – Moderate to Hard
Yahoo Interview Process that I’ve faced is below.
1. Written Test
2. Coding
3. Technical Interviews (3)
4. HR Interview.
Round 1 – Written Test
In this round, 25 questions were asked. And the questions are from Networking, Basic Algorithms, OS, Databases, Data Structures, and maths puzzles. After completing the Online written test only 20 people were shortlisted for the next round.
Round 2 – Coding
Time duration for this round is 1 hour. A coding question was asked. Given a set of 2-dimensional pairs of points (floats/ doubles) find out the two nearest points, for each point. I used the recursive divide and conquer approach to solve it in O(nlgn) time. Later I was told to generalize the code for n points (pseudo code).
From this round, only 10 were forwarded to the next. I hope you got the gist about the difficulty level of this round.
3 Technical Interview Rounds
1st Technical Interview
Below are the technical questions that were asked in my 1st round of technical interviews.
1. Questions asked on Linked Lists
2. You have implemented a search engine, you want to find if a URL typed by you is present in the cache of URLs that you have, more or less you have to give an optimized algorithm for it.
I’ve answered both the questions and the interviewer told me I was shortlisted for the next round of technical interviews.
2nd Technical Interview
In this round, the interviewer asked me a maths puzzle. And then, later on, asked me What would I like to work on in yahoo If I got placed in the company, I answered the questions according to the field of my interest. And then I was shortlisted in this round.
3rd Technical Interview
Check out the below questions to know what I’ve been asked in my final round of technical interviews. In this round, questions were asked from Networking, OS, and OOPS concepts
1. write a program for Producer/ Consumer Problem.
2. Explain about OOPS concept
3. Tell me about Virtual and Friend functions
4. What are Iterators in Java
5. Explain about Leaky Bucket Algorithm
After a few more questions, he asked me to appear for the final round which is HR Interview.
Round 4 – HR Interview
The HR Interview is easy when compared to other rounds. The interviewer asked me the following questions.
1. What are your interests.
2. What are your hobbies
3. What will you contribute from your position to the company
4. Do you have any other job offers from other companies?
Finally, after all, other members completed their interviews the results were announced. I was one of the fortunate candidates who got placed in the Yahoo for Senior Software Engineer job role.
